It's New Year's Time again. Time to seriously think about making goals to get healthy through a new exercise routine. Keep these tips in mind when making this year's resolutions. They will make your planning easier.
* Check first with your doctor. Especially if you are not particularly physically active. A doctor can give you a set of guidelines so that you don't overdo it when performing these physical exercises
* Start off with small goals. While it may sound exciting to imagine yourself doing big tasks like going to the gym every day, it may be difficult to keep motivated with such a big change. The initial goal may begin to feel overwhelming, and your motivation soon dies away. The solution? Set smaller goals. For example, if your goal is to go to the gym every day, just go to the gym one day a week for three weeks. Once you've accomplish that goal, step it up. Decide to go to the gym twice a week for three weeks. Once you've accomplished that goal, step it up again. Soon you'll be going to the gym every day.
* Give yourself a reward. When you accomplish a goal, even a small one, reward yourself. It could be a new book, or some clothes that you had your eye on getting. Remember, this is supposed to be fun Just be sure that you reward yourself. There is nothing like proper motivation to keep you going.
* Do something fun. Exercising doesn't have to be running around a track until you can't breathe anymore. Dancing is exercise, walking in nature is exercise, jumping on a trampoline is exercise, as is tennis, swimming, yoga, etc. Find a sport that you enjoy, and reaching your goals will become easy and fun.
* Add variety. It's easy to get into a rut when you're beginning a new exercise routine. In order to keep things interesting and maintain your motivation, consider a few exercises or sports you enjoy. This can make it easier on your body too. For example, if you're running two or three times a week, consider walking or riding your bike on the other days. Maybe add yoga to keep your muscles flexible.
* Exercise with friends. Friends can motivate you to get to the gym,or run one more lap around the track. Friends can challenge you to push yourself just a little bit farther. Friends can help make your exercises fun
* Exercise at your peak part of the day. Are you a morning person? Then try your exercises when the sun is still rising. You probably will find yourself with more energy to do the exercises. And if you're an evening person, just shift your exercise regimen to the afternoon on evening.
So take advantage of the New Year and make some resolutions to improve your health and add a new exercise routine to your life. Add some friends to the mix, and make it fun for all. And improvement to your health will be a great side benefit.
